A 58-year-old man in the UK won £9 million (approximately NT$430 million) in the lottery and quit his job to enjoy life, but later became bored and developed a drinking habit, ultimately dying of a heart attack.

According to the UK's Daily Mail, Keith Gough, who lived in Shropshire, was originally a baker. After winning the lottery in 2005, he quit his job and began living the high life. He and his wife used the prize money to buy BMW's most expensive car, as well as premium boxes at horse racing and football clubs.

After a period of extravagant living, Gough found life dull and turned to heavy drinking, leading his wife of 27 years to separate from him two years after the win.

He moved into a rented million-pound mansion and hired a driver and gardener at high salaries. Gough later developed a gambling habit and was scammed out of over £700,000 (approximately NT$33.9 million) by fraudsters under the guise of investments. In March of this year, he died of a heart attack due to alcoholism.

Last week, probate records revealed that Gough, who had two children, left behind an estate worth £1.28 million (approximately NT$61.98 million), with £780,000 (approximately NT$37.77 million) remaining after debts were deducted.

Last year, Gough admitted in an interview that winning the lottery ruined his life. He said, "I lost all discipline in my life, so I just kept spending money, and in the end, I became very bored."

He added, "I used to drink only with meals and had many friends. Now they’ve all drifted away because I no longer trust anyone. I would advise people not to buy lottery tickets."
