Hiring a Vietnamese woman to care for his stroke-stricken wife, Cai Hanchao unexpectedly employed his own biological daughter. Filled with anticipation for the reunion, Cai expressed, "I really never expected this."
Delayed by Illness
At 77 years old, Cai Hanchao should have already traveled to Vietnam to meet his daughter, Chen Shikang. However, due to heart disease and high blood pressure, he was admitted to Taipei Hospital, postponing the reunion by a few more days. Cai said he is set to be discharged today, and as his health gradually improves, he plans to visit Vietnam in a few days. The thought of having a daughter in his life brings him immense joy and anticipation. He mentioned that during phone conversations, he could sense her eagerness as well.
Cai recounted that he initially hired Chen Shikang to care for his wife after her stroke. After just seven months together, Chen moved to Kinmen for work. Over a month later, he suddenly received a call from her asking if he had seen a bag. After searching high and low, he found the bag Chen had forgotten. Upon opening it, he was shocked to find a photo of himself from his younger days and a ring of special significance.
Cai admitted he hadn't thought much of it at first and never imagined Chen could be his daughter. He simply wanted to call and ask her, "Why do you have these photos and the ring?" Chen explained that her mother had passed them on through her aunt before she died, telling her they were keepsakes from her biological father.
Reflecting on Chen's words, Cai recalled being sent to Hong Kong on a business trip in his thirties, where he briefly had a relationship with a Vietnamese woman. Before leaving, he gave her his photo and the ring. Unbeknownst to him, their union had resulted in a child. It was an unimaginable coincidence that over 40 years later, he would end up hiring his own daughter.
