A 32-year-old chef surnamed Fang in Yilan County suffered a myocardial infarction after eating six eggs daily. Dr. Huang Songhao, a cardiologist at National Yang-Ming University Hospital, stated that egg yolks contain high levels of LDL cholesterol, commonly known as "bad cholesterol," which can easily lead to heart disease. He advised consuming no more than three egg yolks per week, noting that the chef's habit of eating six eggs a day was excessive. Coincidentally, Huang Songhao shares the same birthdate as the chef. Huang remarked yesterday, "It was a bit of a shock."

The chef, surnamed Fang, experienced chest tightness, discomfort, and pain, prompting him to visit the emergency room at Yang-Ming University Hospital on the evening of April 11, accompanied by family. He was diagnosed with myocardial infarction. Due to a narrowed right coronary artery, the hospital performed a stent placement surgery, and he was discharged after a week of hospitalization.

Huang Songhao, who performed the surgery, explained that the 32-year-old chef weighed 70 kg, had a standard physique, and no prior medical history. However, upon questioning, it was discovered that he consumed six eggs daily—two each for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Egg yolks contain high levels of LDL cholesterol, which can infiltrate blood vessel walls, leading to atherosclerosis and potential blockages, thereby increasing the risk of heart disease. The chef's LDL cholesterol level was measured at 155 mg/dL, significantly higher than the standard limit of 100 mg/dL.

Huang Songhao recommended limiting egg yolk intake to no more than two to three per week and reducing consumption of crab roe, shrimp roe, fish roe, egg yolk pastries, and mullet roe to prevent excessive accumulation of bad cholesterol.

On the day the chef was admitted, Huang Songhao was called back from dinner to perform the surgery and was surprised to discover that the patient shared his exact birthdate. He said, "I was a bit startled at the time and immediately thought about the high stress and irregular lifestyle of doctors. I wondered when I might collapse myself. Studies show that doctors live about 10 years less than the general population, so we must also pay attention to our health."
