Due to the global influence of Westernized diets, junk food is almost everywhere. It's widely known that junk food contributes to obesity and increases the risk of diabetes. Now, a new U.S. study suggests that junk food may also negatively impact your memory.

Researchers found that consuming too much junk food not only raises insulin levels but also affects the brain. Previous studies have also confirmed a link between poor dietary habits and Alzheimer's disease, as high blood pressure and cholesterol can restrict blood flow to the brain. The research further indicates that these factors may also impair brain cells' ability to respond properly to insulin.

In experiments conducted by researchers at Brown University, blocking insulin in the brains of mice caused confusion, making them unable to navigate a maze. Additionally, the mice's brains showed conditions similar to Alzheimer's disease, including high concentrations of amyloid proteins—a major contributor to the onset of Alzheimer's.

Consider this: If obesity and diabetes aren’t enough to steer you away from junk food, then over the years, junk food may continue to erode your memory—until one day, you might not even remember what junk food is.
