Can colors really influence behavior? A report published in the journal "Science" suggests that the cultural connotations of red are "warning" and "avoidance," which can make people more precise and attentive to details. Blue, on the other hand, represents "freedom" and "openness," thus being in a blue environment can enhance creativity.

Juliet Zhu, an assistant professor at the University of British Columbia (UBC) who led the study, stated, "If you want to enhance memory, you should use red; but for brainstorming or strategizing, you should gather people in a blue meeting room." Additionally, when applied to advertising, if the goal is to promote "avoiding negative behaviors," such as preventing tooth decay, red should be used as the background. However, for "encouraging positive behaviors" like teeth whitening, blue should be used to increase appeal.

The study involved 600 participants who were asked to perform text or image tests under red, blue, or neutral computer screens. The group exposed to red performed better in memory and detail-oriented questions, while the group exposed to blue excelled in tasks requiring imagination.

Some scholars believe the reason for these findings is that humans tend to pay more attention to everything when in an uneasy environment. Since red is often used for warnings, it may subconsciously induce unease in participants, thereby enhancing memory. In contrast, blue is much more peaceful and positive, helping to relax and stimulate imagination.
