Regarding the recent online signature campaign advocating for the removal of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) from the national healthcare system, the spokesperson for the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (NATCM), the administrative authority of the TCM industry, recently stated that abolishing TCM is a reckless denial of science.

According to a Xinhua News Agency report from Beijing on October 17, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health had already refuted this during a press conference on the 10th, stating that TCM is an inseparable and important component of China's medical and health sector.

The NATCM pointed out that initiating such an online signature campaign reflects ignorance of history and a reckless denial and erasure of TCM's historical contributions, practical roles, and scientific essence. TCM has been validated through thousands of years of practice and is deeply cherished and trusted by the masses. Practice and history will also prove that this signature campaign, like previous events denying TCM, is nothing more than an unpopular farce.

The NATCM also stated that some individuals in society are exploiting the banner of TCM to deceive people, and some companies are adding Western drugs to TCM. These are illegal activities carried out by unscrupulous elements taking advantage of the public's affection and trust in TCM, and they have nothing to do with TCM itself. Such actions are also deeply detested by the majority of TCM practitioners.

Furthermore, TCM is an excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation and a distinctive feature and advantage of China's healthcare system. For thousands of years, it has made outstanding contributions to the prosperity and health of the Chinese nation. Today, it continues to share the responsibility of safeguarding public health alongside Western medicine, playing an irreplaceable role.
