Modern people rely heavily on computers, spending long hours in front of screens! However, ophthalmologists are now issuing a warning about a condition known as "eye overwork death" or macular degeneration, which has recently troubled many patients. Most of these patients are relatively young, in their 30s, but they use computers for more than 10 hours a day, stay up late, and suffer from sleep deprivation. Their eyes show signs of deteriorating and blurred vision. Doctors warn that without timely treatment, this could lead to blindness.
Working on computers all day, glued to the screen—beware of "eye overwork death"! Ophthalmologist Liu Zongxue says, "Fluid accumulates in the macula, causing blurred vision. This condition typically occurs in patients around 30 to 40 years old."
The so-called "eye overwork death" is actually macular degeneration. For instance, a young engineer in his early 40s developed this condition after staring at a computer for over 10 hours a day. He experienced blurred vision for more than four months before seeking medical help.
From doctors' observations, such cases have become increasingly common recently. Most patients are those who spend prolonged periods staring at computers, stay up late, and overuse their eyes, leading to overwork symptoms. These symptoms are more prevalent among men. Many people dismiss them, but without early treatment, blurred vision can easily recur. If left unchecked, it may eventually lead to blindness. Liu Zongxue warns, "If the condition recurs repeatedly, it could permanently damage the patient's vision."
Even if you must use a computer, take regular breaks, avoid staying up late, and seek medical advice immediately if symptoms arise. This is the only way to keep the "eye overwork death" syndrome—which primarily affects middle-aged adults—away from your precious windows to the soul.
