Spicy food lovers, take note! An 18-year-old girl lost her life due to her love for spicy food. She was particularly fond of spicy beef noodles, and coupled with a recurring ulcer on her tongue, the frequent cycle of ulceration and healing accelerated the cancerous transformation of her tongue. By the time she sought treatment, it was already late-stage tongue cancer, and she passed away within half a year.

A bowl of beef noodles topped with a layer of bright red chili oil might make you lose track of whether you're crying or your nose is running—spicy food enthusiasts find it thrilling. However, during a ghost pepper eating contest held this March, someone was rushed to the hospital after fainting from eating something too spicy.

Now, an 18-year-old girl who had loved eating hot and spicy foods since childhood had a recurring ulcer on the left side of her tongue. Although she applied medication herself and it would heal within a week, she continued eating spicy beef noodles afterward, causing her tongue to ulcerate again.

Dr. Li Zheng, an oral and maxillofacial specialist at National Taiwan University Hospital, said the girl's tongue ulcer persisted for over one to two months without healing. Gradually, she noticed her tongue becoming numb and immobile, and it turned out that the nearby lymph nodes had swollen to about 4–5 centimeters.

Doctors warn that if a specific area in the mouth keeps getting injured and fails to heal after more than two weeks, medical attention should be sought immediately to prevent cancer cells from taking advantage. (News source: ETTV reporters Li Yunchen and Wang Zhenyu)
