Dr. Weng Wen-rou, a dermatologist at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital known as the "beautiful doctor," passed away after being diagnosed with stage four lung adenocarcinoma in December of the year before last. Her mother, who accompanied her throughout her battle against cancer, said that her daughter had tried every possible treatment, both Western and traditional Chinese medicine, and had worked hard to stay healthy through exercise, but ultimately couldn't overcome the disease. Speaking of the painful memories, her mother choked up several times.

"Cleansers and other products containing surfactants—their damage to the skin is closely related to water temperature..." With her signature romantic curls, this was how Weng Wen-rou appeared on TV shows, sharing skincare tips. Her delicate features earned her the nickname "beautiful doctor." However, in the year before last, she was diagnosed with stage four lung adenocarcinoma. For over a year, she fought bravely against the illness. Even though chemotherapy changed her oval face into a round one, it never took away her smile.

Last year, Weng Wen-rou once said, "My mood was really bad, and I kept feeling nauseous. I was either sleeping or eating. After chemotherapy, my white blood cell count would drop." Despite coughing during a phone interview after falling ill, her weakness was evident. Photos on her blog of outings with her beloved son and with her elderly parents revealed the attachments she couldn't let go of. In the end, she couldn't make it past the Lunar New Year, passing away just before the holiday.

In April of last year, she celebrated her first—and last—birthday after her cancer diagnosis. She was thrilled about the birthday dinner her friends arranged for her. She even wrote on her blog, "They say cancer cells fear laughter! I hope this evaluation brings good news." Besides thanking her friends for their blessings, she also expressed hope for many more birthdays with them. Sadly, this wish would never come true.

In June of last year, Weng Wen-rou published her final blog post, writing: "Today, the doctor told me that my meninges have diffuse cancer cell metastases. I really want to cry because, as a doctor, I know what this means. But my mother is by my side... so I’m trying my best to stay brave." "I feel like I’ve stepped on a landmine. Though I know everyone has their own fate, I pray I can overcome this hurdle! Because there are still things I can’t let go of..."

Flipping through Weng Wen-rou’s cancer battle diary, her mother had meticulously recorded her daughter’s fight against the disease from the day she fell ill. Whether it was consuming bird's nest for health or undergoing chemotherapy at the hospital, each day was heartbreaking for her mother. Weng’s mother said her daughter was truly sweet and considerate—even when chemotherapy was agonizing, she would comfort her mother, telling her not to be sad or upset. But what Weng Wen-rou couldn’t bear to leave behind most was her five-year-old son.

On February 10th, her mother wrote the word "passed away" in the diary but truly couldn’t accept that her daughter was gone. On her blog, she told Rou-Rou (Weng Wen-rou’s nickname), "Your family loves you dearly. We hope you can let go of worldly matters and rest in peace." Every word reflected the deep bond between mother and daughter. Yet, no matter how unwilling she was to part, she could only dry her tears and hope her daughter would find peace in the next world.
