Life Center / Comprehensive Report

"Xenical" is currently the only remaining legally prescribed weight-loss drug. However, a recent Canadian study has indicated that this small blue pill, produced by the Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche, may increase the risk of kidney disease. In response, the pharmaceutical company stated that "Xenical" has been available in Taiwan for 11 years, and no kidney-related side effects have been observed in clinical trials among weight-loss patients.

According to the Canadian report, the study involved 953 patients who had taken "Xenical" for a year. Among them, the incidence of kidney disease increased from the original 0.5% to 2%. Dr. Weir, who led the study, noted that these are only preliminary findings.

After reviewing the study, the pharmaceutical company also stated that the results do not directly prove a link between "Xenical" and kidney disease. Moreover, no actual cases have been reported so far, and there are no plans to recall the drug. Nevertheless, domestic doctors still advise those seeking weight loss that excessive medication is undoubtedly harmful to the body. Therefore, it is essential to combine medication with exercise for healthy weight loss.
