While the president visits Africa for "oxygen diplomacy," a group of Taiwanese TCM practitioners and scholars are also engaging in people-to-people diplomacy through Chinese medicine. In recent years, an increasing number of professionals from Europe and America have crossed oceans to study in Taiwan, with some even having explored mainland China before deciding to stay in Taiwan for their studies after comparison.

In the West, natural medicine and TCM are gradually gaining popularity, motivating foreign enthusiasts to travel far to Taiwan for advanced studies. China Medical University’s College of Chinese Medicine has almost become an international village, with long-term students from Germany, Switzerland, the U.S., Japan, and South Korea pursuing degrees in TCM or post-baccalaureate Chinese medicine. Even though medical regulations in their home countries may prevent them from practicing after graduation, American student Chen Xiaowei, currently studying post-baccalaureate Chinese medicine, believes the knowledge will benefit him for life.

Japanese scholar Koinu Fumino, a Ph.D. in pharmacy from Nagoya, briefly visited Taiwan for academic exchanges in the past. Fascinated by TCM, she became a post-baccalaureate student at the university. She believes that while Western medicine treats one disease with one method, TCM offers a hundred methods for one disease and tailors treatment to the individual, blending science with humanistic care.

Before them, Swiss anthropology master Tie Yun, top graduate from the Lausanne School of Management Feng Baode, and German medical master Ma Peide have stayed at China Medical University as assistant professors of medical English to continue their TCM research and accumulate clinical experience.

Ma Peide has even become the "underground commander" for recruiting international students at the university. He analyzes that Taiwan’s integrated education in Chinese and Western medicine provides students with comprehensive TCM training alongside Western medical education, making it the best in the world.

Su Yizhang, director of the Chinese Medicine Department at China Medical University, explains that while modern medicine has made significant progress in treating acute, severe, and infectious diseases with clear causes, it faces bottlenecks in degenerative and immune-related conditions. TCM, with its holistic approach and personalized treatment based on individual constitution, not only aligns with preventive medicine but also demonstrates superior efficacy in treating multifactorial diseases, gradually establishing itself as a prominent field of study.
