【United Evening News╱Reporter Cai Rongqiao/Kaohsiung Report】2012.06.02

In recent years, the medical system has seen a wave of healthcare professionals leaving their jobs. A senior doctor lamented that younger medical staff prioritize personal life more but lack the resilience and adaptability of previous generations. "They only demand limits on how many night shifts they can work in a week, without pushing themselves to improve their professional skills!"

A mid-career pediatrician shared his experience, stating that he underwent rigorous training from medical school to residency, chief residency, and attending physician. He even pursued master's and doctoral degrees in his spare time, working nearly 100 hours a week, solely focused on accumulating hands-on experience and enhancing his medical expertise. It took him 17 years to finally become a professor last year.

**Lack of Passion and Dedication Makes It Hard to Persist**

He pointed out that young doctors nowadays often demand, "Don’t assign me too many night shifts, or I’ll quit!" This doctor emphasized that passion and dedication are the most crucial driving forces in medical work. Without these, it’s difficult to endure the challenges. He believes urban young doctors, in particular, lack sufficient commitment and wishes they could visit rural areas to see how many patients are in need of medical help. "I hope this could spark even a little empathy in them."
