To ensure their children don't fall behind at the starting line, many parents use the traditional Chinese medicine "bone growth formula" to nourish their growing children during the Liqiu (Start of Autumn) and Bailu (White Dew) solar terms. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner Lin Chun-ru reminds parents to carefully select medicinal ingredients to avoid the adverse effect of prematurely closing the growth plates, which could halt growth.

Many Taiwanese believe that supplementing children during their developmental stage around the Gregorian calendar's August 7th, known as the Liqiu solar term, can help them grow healthier and stronger the following spring, achieving the "bone growth" effect that promotes development. Lin Chun-ru stated that this is a precious legacy left by our wise ancestors. In TCM research, the concept of using Chinese herbs to nourish blood, qi, and the spleen and kidneys, combined with bitter bamboo shoots and basil roots as medicinal guides for stewing during the period from Liqiu to Bailu, is indeed valid.

However, many people, without understanding the specifics, buy and use formulas from the market without proper diagnosis, which can lead to worsening conditions. Lin Chun-ru explained that incorrect usage can cause the early appearance of secondary sexual characteristics, potentially leading to the premature closure of growth plates.

She suggested that it is safer to start stimulating growth after the age of 10, when adolescents are more suitable for such treatments. Children can take three doses annually until they stop their rapid growth phase at around 17 years old. Boys should be paired with hen stews, and girls with rooster stews. Seizing this timing can help achieve an ideal height.

In addition to dietary supplements, Gengxin TCM Clinic recently invited professional sports trainers to demonstrate "bone growth exercises." Lin Chun-ru noted that stimulating acupoints such as Sanyinjiao and Zusanli through exercise can enhance height growth with a multiplier effect.
