The Japanese economy is in a slump, and in order to keep their jobs, many office workers are working overtime excessively. However, a restaurant manager suddenly collapsed at his workplace in mid-October last year and died within a few days after being rushed to the hospital. He was only 32 years old. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has determined that his cause of death was due to overwork, sparking intense discussions.

"Takayuki Maezawa" spent almost all his time working to support his mother, sister, and himself. Ultimately, work became the end of his life. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has determined that the 32-year-old Maezawa died from overwork.

As a restaurant manager, Maezawa's usual level of busyness was almost unbelievable. According to his mother's records, in July 2007, his overtime hours were 173 hours; in August, it increased to 238 hours.

On average, his working hours per day were between 14 to 17 hours, with only 2 to 3 days off each month. Finally, in mid-October, Maezawa collapsed on the spot at the restaurant and died within a few days due to a cerebral hemorrhage after being hospitalized.

According to an analysis by the National Trade Union, Takayuki Maezawa is likely a victim of the economic downturn. Originally, most of the population aged 20 to 30 living in Tokyo were short-term contract workers, with no job security, hence they had to frequently work overtime.

For Maezawa's family, everything is too late now. It can only be said that while work is important, life is even more precious.
