Canadian researchers today stated that diabetes can dull the brain, causing two types of cognitive impairments in adults of all ages.
A research team from the University of Alberta found that in two mental function tests focusing on executive function and reaction speed, healthy adults performed significantly better than those with diabetes.
Researcher Roger Dixon stated in a declaration, "Speed and executive function are considered essential components of cognitive health."
Executive function includes the ability to focus, solve problems with new information, and answer questions after careful consideration.
In a report published in the journal "Neuropsychology," researchers noted that they studied 41 adults aged 53 to 90 with type 2 diabetes and 424 healthy adults.
It is well known that diabetes increases the risk of diseases such as Alzheimer's, and high blood sugar can damage blood vessels and nerves, leading to multi-organ damage. Central News Agency (Translation)
