The Consumers' Foundation tested nine commercially available chrysanthemum products and found pesticide residues in eight of them that exceeded safety standards. The Agriculture and Food Agency (AFA) of the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, stated that the compliant products were produced in Taitung County, while the non-compliant ones were imported.

The AFA also mentioned that relevant authorities have strengthened border inspections and random sampling of market products.

Since last year, the AFA has enhanced safety management for domestically produced chrysanthemums and conducted comprehensive testing. Among them, 44 samples from Tongluo Township all met safety standards.

The AFA continues to guide production units in establishing their own branded packaging to differentiate products. It also promotes regional pest control for chrysanthemum production and increases random sampling. Products that fail inspections are barred from the market to ensure public safety.

This year, Taiwan's chrysanthemum cultivation area is approximately 27 hectares (12 hectares in Tongluo Township, Miaoli County, and 15 hectares in Taitung City, Taitung County), with an estimated yield of about 21 metric tons.

The AFA has assisted in establishing four chrysanthemum production and marketing teams to improve cultivation management and safe pesticide use among farmers. From the flowering period (October to December), random testing is conducted on production farms to strictly monitor pesticide use.

Additionally, the AFA has guided the Tongluo Township Farmers' Association and the Taitung Regional Farmers' Association to develop their own branded packaging and apply for the Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) certification to distinguish their products from imported ones, ensuring chrysanthemum hygiene, safety, and consumer rights. 1011007
