Mainland China Center / Comprehensive Report
Fast food chains in mainland China are suspected of using "chemically accelerated chickens," which take only 45 days to raise. KFC claims these account for only 1% of its chicken procurement, while McDonald's emphasizes that the supplier in question is not currently providing chicken to them.
According to a report by "China Economic Net," Shanxi Suhai Group is a supplier for both KFC and McDonald's. The report states that the company uses high-temperature, enclosed farming methods, with uniformly supplied feed containing three types of medication. The first 10 days involve No. 1 feed for nutrition, followed by No. 2 feed for bone growth, and the final 15 days use No. 3 feed for muscle growth.
Farmers working with Suhai Group revealed that the company requires 5,000 chickens per shed. Due to the high density, the chickens are prone to illness, necessitating constant medication to boost their immunity. As long as the chickens remain disease-free for 45 days, they are slaughtered and sent to market for consumption.
Workers at the farms disclosed that Suhai's drug-mixing vehicles contain heavy metals like silver nitrate and sterilizing agents. Special machines prepare the medicated water, which is fed to the chickens three times a day. The feed also contains additives, though the exact composition is unknown. They only know that flies near the chicken cages die from the toxicity, and young people are reluctant to work there.
KFC issued a statement on its official Weibo account, stating that its past food safety records are normal. The company requires all chicken suppliers to strictly implement comprehensive food safety management and conducts random inspections on their products. KFC emphasized its consistent commitment to food safety.
McDonald's China stated that Suhai Group is not its current chicken supplier, stressing that all its food complies with government food safety standards. The company maintains a strict supplier management system and standards, always providing customers with safe and high-quality food.
