According to reports from the Beijing Youth Daily and the News Morning Post on March 31, a British cancer research expert recently reached a startling conclusion: the number of deaths caused by mobile phone use will surpass those caused by smoking. This is the most severe warning to date about the health hazards of mobile phones.

The report, citing the British newspaper The Independent on Sunday, stated that British neurosurgeon Vini Khurana advised people to avoid using mobile phones as much as possible and urged government departments and the mobile phone industry to take immediate measures to reduce the radiation emitted by mobile phones.

Khurana, who has won 14 awards over the past 16 years, has studied over 100 reports on the health effects of mobile phones. He mentioned that a report from last October indicated that people who use mobile phones for more than 10 years have double the risk of developing brain cancer.

Khurana is concerned that if the mobile phone industry and governments do not take decisive action immediately, there will be an increase in malignant brain tumors worldwide over the next decade.

Statistics show that the number of mobile phone users worldwide is already three times the number of smokers. Therefore, Khurana believes that the harm caused by mobile phones will be more severe than that caused by cigarettes. Currently, 5 million people die each year from diseases caused by smoking.

In fact, previous reports about the health hazards of mobile phone radiation have frequently appeared in various media. Environmentalists have called on the public to minimize the use of mobile phones, returning them to their original purpose of being used while on the move, and to use safe, environmentally friendly, and radiation-free landline phones in fixed locations such as homes and offices. In China, some health-conscious individuals have even given up using mobile phones altogether, preferring to use landline phones instead. (By Shen Weijun)
