Many patients taking ACEI antihypertensive drugs are prone to severe coughing. Dr. Chen Zhihong, President of Cheng Kung University Hospital, stated that recent multinational research shows that replacing ACEI with "angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB)" not only lowers blood pressure but also has cardiovascular protective effects.

The European Society of Cardiology recently published a TRANSCEND study report, involving 5,926 cardiovascular patients from 40 countries, including Taiwan. The study indicates that patients who cannot tolerate the side effects of ACEI do not face an increased risk of cardiovascular events and stroke when switching to ARB. For patients already receiving standard treatments such as antihypertensive drugs, antiplatelet drugs, and statins for lowering blood lipids, the risk of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, and stroke can be reduced by 13%.
