Middle-aged men who frequently do push-ups should be cautious. A 53-year-old male in Taipei suffered a stroke while performing push-ups due to "subclavian steal syndrome." This condition occurs when arteries harden and narrow, reducing blood flow to the arms. The body then compensates by "stealing" blood from the brain's blood vessels, leading to insufficient blood supply to the brain.

For health and fitness, push-ups are a popular exercise among many men. However, a middle-aged man with hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and hyperglycemia suffered a minor stroke while doing push-ups. Doctors warn that as the number of patients with these "three highs" increases, coupled with many people's preference for intense exercise, extra caution is necessary.

If you have any of the "three highs," you are in a high-risk group. Doctors advise that during intense arm exercises, including swinging motions, you should stop immediately if you feel unwell and seek medical attention promptly.
