How could a massage lead to quadriplegia? A computer engineer, who suffered from neck pain five years ago, went to the well-known Jiancheng Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic in Taipei for a massage. However, this massage left him quadriplegic and unable to move. He sued the clinic and was awarded 9.63 million NTD in compensation.

Limbs that were once flexible are now extremely difficult to move. Even basic actions like typing while looking at a screen require Mr. Cai to exert all his strength, with only his fingertips able to move. Walking or lifting his legs is completely out of the question. Five years ago, Mr. Cai went to Jiancheng Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic in Taipei for neck pain. He was treated by Dr. Wang Jingxiu, who was the deputy director at the time. Dr. Wang diagnosed him with a neck sprain and recommended a massage. Unexpectedly, after the massage, Mr. Cai became quadriplegic and lost the ability to move.

The judge ruled that Dr. Wang Jingxiu failed to take an X-ray before performing the massage, leading to an improper diagnosis. During the massage, Dr. Wang twisted the patient's shoulders at an angle close to 180 degrees, causing severe injury. The court ordered the doctor to compensate 9.63 million NTD.

Mr. Cai was originally a computer engineer at the Institute for Information Industry with a promising future. Now, he says no amount of money can bring back his health, which is what truly matters to him. (Reported by Guo Yijun, Zhan Weigeng, and Zhang Chunfeng)
