The "Leisure Education Promotion Association" and the "National Parents' Alliance" released a survey indicating that over 70% of parents reported their children have the habit of playing "online games." One-quarter of parents considered the situation "serious," worrying it would affect parent-child relationships and school performance. Shih Chi-yuan, a student from Shih Chien University who was once addicted to online games, shared his personal experience today. He once stayed up all night for an entire year, glued to the internet "fighting monsters," which led to increased intracranial pressure and emergency hospitalization—nearly turning him into a vegetative state! Even now, he still suffers from many lingering physical effects. (Reported by Chen Ying-chu)

Shih Chi-yuan, a fifth-year student at Shih Chien University who was once addicted to online games, shared his firsthand experience. For a whole year, he was immersed in the virtual world, living a reversed schedule and never leaving his home. He skipped classes throughout his fourth year until one day, when classmates asked him to return to campus for graduation photos. It suddenly dawned on him—he had wasted an entire year.

At the same time, Shih Chi-yuan's body rebelled. He suddenly foamed at the mouth and lost consciousness in his sleep, prompting his family to rush him to the hospital. His intracranial pressure kept rising, and he fell into a coma, nearly becoming a vegetable. When he finally woke up in the ICU, he said he would never forget the heartbroken look in his parents' eyes as they stood by his hospital bed. "The pain in my parents' eyes broke my heart. I want to use this experience to urge teenagers currently addicted to online games—this behavior doesn’t just hurt themselves, but also those around them. I also encourage young people to explore other interests."

After narrowly escaping death, Shih Chi-yuan spent a year in rehabilitation, quitting online games and returning to school. Through creative pursuits, he reexamined his life.
