Do you have the habit of working with a laptop on your lap? Do your legs feel hot after maintaining this position for a long time? Swiss medical professionals warn that frequently placing a laptop on your lap may lead to "toasted skin syndrome" and even cause male infertility.

According to a report by Xinhua News Agency, Swiss medical experts wrote in the journal *Pediatrics* that prolonged exposure to heat sources can cause unusual skin discoloration on the legs.

The article cited a case of a 12-year-old boy who enjoyed playing computer games with his laptop on his lap. Despite feeling the heat, he continued using it this way, resulting in localized darkening of the skin on his left leg, resembling a black sponge.

A university student from Virginia, USA, also developed similar symptoms. Medical professionals were initially puzzled until they discovered the student often worked with his laptop on his lap for extended periods. The accumulated heat caused the bottom of the laptop to reach temperatures as high as 50°C (122°F).

Medical experts noted that such conditions are not limited to laptop users—those who frequently use heating pads or similar devices should also be cautious. Even if these devices don't "burn" the skin, they may cause permanent darkening or even lead to skin cancer.

Additionally, individuals who work near heat sources, such as bakers and glassblowers, are also prone to developing "toasted skin syndrome."

Previous medical reports have indicated that men who often place laptops on their laps may experience increased scrotal temperatures over time, which can reduce sperm production and potentially lead to infertility.
