With Father's Day approaching on August 8th, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs conducted inspections on 15 rechargeable electric shavers, a popular gift choice for the occasion. The results showed that 12 of them failed to meet the required standards. Among the non-compliant products, 8 failed the "electromagnetic interference" test, while 9 failed the "labeling inspection."

The BSMI noted that due to the high failure rate in the "electromagnetic interference" category, it plans to include rechargeable electric shavers in the mandatory inspection list. Although there is no direct scientific evidence proving that electromagnetic waves are harmful to human health, they may interfere with other electronic devices. For instance, if a father uses a non-compliant shaver while wearing a cardiac pacemaker, his well-intentioned gift could backfire.

Additionally, the BSMI inspected 10 commercially available baby strollers, checking four criteria: labeling, brake displacement, braking effectiveness, and dynamic durability. All of them met the national standards.
