Does fast-food restaurant frying oil contain the toxic substance "arsenic"? Taiwan's highest health authority, the Department of Health, preemptively released the results of inspections conducted on the 8th on the 9th, with the answer being "all passed." However, the report has drawn skepticism from the public because the sampled oil was not the same batch initially found to contain inorganic arsenic, merely sharing the same batch number. This leaves the question of whether the oil is problematic not fully answered.

Originally, the results of a second round of oil inspections were expected on the 10th, but unexpectedly, the Department of Health posted the results online on the evening of the 9th. The report stated that five of the samples were from the same batch as those inspected by the Consumer Protection Officer, including both used and unused frying oil, yet none were found to contain toxic levels of arsenic.

However, does the absence of arsenic in samples from different dates and different oil tanks mean the earlier batches were safe? Experts from the Consumer Protection Commission are hesitant to agree. Comparing the frying oil samples collected by the Consumer Protection Officer on June 21 with those voluntarily submitted by McDonald's, both appear yellowish-brown, making it difficult to determine with the naked eye whether they came from the same batch.

The Taiwan-U.S. Testing Laboratory, commissioned by the Consumer Protection Officer, has sent the questionable samples to a third-party lab for further testing. The results are expected to be released on the 15th, finally providing a clear answer on whether McDonald's oil contains arsenic. (News source: EBC News reporters Lai Sihao and Chen Yisong)
