Premier Jiang Yi-huah responded to legislator Li Kunze's inquiry in the Legislative Yuan yesterday, stating that 99% of the oil products currently on the shelves should be qualified. Unqualified oil products only appear in small shops in remote areas or night markets. If this issue can also be resolved, mothers should be able to purchase cooking oil with peace of mind in large supermarkets by the end of this month.
Wei-Chuan recently placed advertisements in various media outlets claiming innocence, asserting that it had no involvement in producing adulterated or substandard oil and was a "victim" in this incident. Following Health and Welfare Minister Chiu Wen-ta's immediate rebuttal of this claim, Premier Jiang Yi-huah also strongly criticized the company during yesterday's Q&A session, stating, "I strongly disapprove of manufacturers using such statements to mislead the public. We are currently reviewing what legal actions can be taken next."
Premier Jiang expressed his surprise upon seeing the advertisement, as it completely contradicted the findings of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The company's products not only had false labeling but were also found to contain copper chlorophyllin.
Additionally, in the case of Tatung's substandard oil, some distributors who accepted returns have not received refunds, leading to rumors that some may resell the oil at low prices. Jiang Yi-huah stated that the Executive Yuan and Changhua County Government have reached a consensus to coordinate with prosecutors to partially unfreeze Tatung's funds. However, a dedicated account must be established specifically for refund cash flow to ensure small distributors do not go bankrupt due to failed returns. As for medium and large distributors with sufficient funds, he expressed less concern.
