The internationally renowned ice cream brand "Häagen-Dazs" has been reported to be required to remove its products from shelves in multiple countries due to "excessive pesticide residues." Currently, France, Belgium, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Ireland have issued recall alerts. Regarding Taiwan, Lin Guanyu, a technical officer from the Food and Drug Administration's Food Division, stated that Singapore and Hong Kong have imported products with the same non-compliant batch numbers as Taiwan, totaling approximately 450,000 cups, weighing 60,000 kilograms.

Previously, Häagen-Dazs imported vanilla-flavored pint ice cream into Taiwan, which was found to contain ethylene oxide, a pesticide banned in Taiwan, during border inspections. As a result, 1,164 boxes (5,471.34 kg) of the product were either returned or destroyed. Recently, the Singapore Food Agency also ordered the removal of two Häagen-Dazs ice cream flavors, "Cookies & Cream" and "Belgian Chocolate," from shelves.

Lin Guanyu explained that the Food and Drug Administration has compiled international recall alerts for Häagen-Dazs, with five regions—France, Belgium, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Ireland—issuing related warnings. Among them, Singapore has one product batch number and Hong Kong has five product batch numbers that overlap with Taiwan's import records.

The five non-compliant batch numbers involved flavors such as Cookies & Cream, Belgian Chocolate, Chocolate Strawberry Crunch, Brown Sugar Milk Tea x Vanilla Crunch, and Vanilla x Raspberry Crunch.

"The Food and Drug Administration has notified Taiwanese businesses to halt sales," Lin Guanyu said. Currently, Häagen-Dazs Taiwan has responded that it is actively conducting tests for confirmation. For products already sold, the company will issue alerts to inform consumers and proceed with subsequent return or exchange procedures, though this will ultimately be determined by the manufacturer based on commercial needs.

Regarding the actual impact in Taiwan, Lin Guanyu noted that approximately 450,000 mini-cups of ice cream from non-compliant batches were reported, totaling around 60,000 kilograms. He mentioned that initially, only Taiwan had detected the issue, but now Häagen-Dazs' French headquarters has stated that the "vanilla raw material" was contaminated, indicating a systemic problem. Businesses must take proactive measures in accordance with Article 7, Section 5 of the Food Safety Act.

As for the next steps, Lin Guanyu stated that the Food and Drug Administration is currently urging manufacturers to remove the products from shelves as soon as possible, with follow-up inspections by health authorities. Due to previous findings at the border, the sampling rate has already been increased. Future administrative actions will depend on whether the manufacturers handle the situation appropriately.
