Another scandal has emerged in the medical field! Doctors from three major hospitals in Taichung and Nantou are suspected of colluding with brokers to falsify medical records and fraudulently claim nearly ten million in insurance payouts. Shockingly, among them is a doctor previously recommended by a magazine as one of the "good doctors." Some physicians were allegedly caught by prosecutors using so-called "professional evaluations" to secretly alter medical records or "upgrade" patients' disabilities, collectively scamming nearly ten million. Surprisingly, one doctor, even listed in a well-known weekly as one of Taiwan's top 70 physicians, is also implicated in the fraud.
Insurance agents are stunned, as even respected doctors have been implicated. However, cases of doctors assisting in falsifying records—with brokers filing claims and taking commissions—are not unheard of. Investigations revealed that many supposedly severely disabled patients were frequently exposed during checks. For instance, when police visited, a "disabled" patient only remembered to grab crutches after his wife reminded him, putting on a lame act. Others, usually able to run and jump, suddenly limped when summoned by prosecutors—quite the performance.
The case is still under investigation, and the full scale of the fraud ring, including how many doctors are involved, remains unknown.
