The suicide of an outstanding psychiatrist has left the medical community in shock! Dr. Zeng Xiande, a psychiatrist at Banqiao Far Eastern Hospital in Taipei County, recently died by suicide from charcoal burning at his residence in Banqiao. No suicide note was found by the police. The hospital stated that Dr. Zeng often counseled teenagers and was an excellent performer, also serving as a volunteer guide at a national park. It could not be confirmed whether the deceased had tendencies towards depression. Other doctors expressed shock and declined to comment.
The Banqiao police said that at 7:30 PM the night before last, the deceased's father, missing his son, went to visit him. At the door, he encountered a friend of the deceased, surnamed Weng, who was also anxiously inquiring. Upon entering his son's residence on Duxing Road in Banqiao City, he found his son's body on the bed in the bedroom, with a charcoal stove nearby, and immediately called the police. The police were shocked to learn during the late-night report that the deceased was a renowned psychiatrist at a well-known hospital.
The police stated that the deceased was 36 years old, unmarried, and lived alone. His life was simple, and as a chief physician at the hospital, he earned a monthly salary of over NT$100,000. Yet, he chose to end his life, leaving even his family puzzled as to the reason. A friend surnamed Weng, who is a teacher, said he met the deceased on a social networking site. He called the deceased on the evening of the 6th but received no response and was unclear why Zeng chose to end his life.
The hospital stated that Dr. Zeng had just been promoted to chief physician a year and a half ago, having previously served as an intern at the hospital. He was very diligent in his work and had no psychiatric treatment records. The hospital was deeply saddened by the loss of such a talented individual and quickly removed Dr. Zeng's registration webpage. Colleagues were heartbroken upon hearing the tragic news.
According to hospital records, Zeng Xiande graduated from the medical school of Taipei Medical University, specializing in neurosis, adolescent psychological assessment and adaptation disorders, and mental distress. He had served as a psychiatric resident at Taoyuan Psychiatric Center of the Department of Health, Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, and Taipei Veterans General Hospital. He was an excellent performer and loved nature. Since 1995, he had been a volunteer interpreter at Taroko National Park.
