A survey indicates that among women with partners over 50, the rate of engaging in sexual activity more than once a week is 44%, lower than the 63% for those with partners aged 40 to 49. Doctors say the length of marriage is not the main factor affecting marital happiness; rather, the key issue is the erectile dysfunction caused by an older partner.
With Qixi Festival (Chinese Valentine's Day) approaching, the Taiwan Women's Health Association today released the "National Survey on Married Women's Sexual Happiness," which polled 300 married women.
The survey found that 44% of women with partners over 50 are dissatisfied with their partner's erectile hardness, nearly double the 23% dissatisfaction rate among women with partners aged 30 to 39.
Cheng Cheng-chieh, vice chairman of the Taiwan Women's Health Association and honorary chairman of the Taiwan Sex Education Association, pointed out that as men age, their health and physical functions decline. Common conditions among older men, such as hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, or diabetes, significantly impact erectile hardness. Consequently, women with older partners experience lower sexual frequency and satisfaction.
The survey also revealed that among women whose partners have fourth-level erectile hardness (comparable to a cucumber), 46% report satisfying experiences in 9 out of 10 sexual encounters—far higher than the 19% satisfaction rate for those with partners at levels one to three (jelly, peeled banana, or unpeeled banana). This shows a strong correlation between male erectile hardness and their partner's sexual satisfaction.
Cheng Cheng-chieh noted that despite the severe flooding in southern Taiwan, survivors must maintain a positive outlook and quickly return to normal life.
To improve the quality of sexual relationships, the Taiwan Women's Health Association has compiled case studies and released an educational audiobook titled "Strange Cases of Sexual Happiness." The book analyzes these cases and offers professional advice to help couples enjoy a sweet Valentine's night.
In "Strange Cases of Sexual Happiness," Dr. Chen Yu, assistant professor of urology at Taipei and Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, advises male cycling enthusiasts to take a 5- to 10-minute break every 30 minutes. Prolonged pressure on the perineal area should be avoided to maintain proper blood flow.
Additionally, he recommends adjusting the bike seat to tilt downward and choosing a wider, softer saddle to ensure both healthy exercise and no harm to sexual function. 980820
