Gentlemen, are you humble, shy, and reluctant to showcase your strengths? Unfortunately, women don’t favor such men. The latest scientific research indicates that low-key men are often perceived as too weak, unstable, and insecure, putting them at a disadvantage whether in job hunting or romance.
According to the UK’s *Daily Mail*, men with an arrogant demeanor are more likely to win women’s hearts. For example, TV talent show’s notoriously sharp-tongued judge Simon Cowell is considered more attractive than the awkward Hugh Grant.
Researchers at Rutgers University in New Jersey conducted a study where they showed over 200 participants a video of a man and a woman applying for the position of a computer lab manager. Both applicants were actors following the same script in a mock interview, presenting themselves with equal humility. Participants then rated the applicants on traits like humility and likability. The results revealed that while both candidates were equally qualified, the man was less favored than the woman.
The findings were published in the journal *Psychology of Men & Masculinity*. The researchers noted that traits like gentleness make men appear less confident, ambitious, and strong, reducing their appeal compared to humble women.
Professor Rudman of Rutgers University stated that the study found men face discrimination when behaving humbly. Despite shifts in gender roles that have made women more financially independent, expectations for men to embody masculinity remain unchanged. However, Rudman also pointed out that the long-standing pressure on men to maintain a masculine image can lead to stress and harm their health.
