For those with food allergies, it's crucial to identify the allergens. A recent survey in Taiwan on allergens found that up to 20% of school-aged children between 6 and 12 years old have allergies, with milk, eggs, and shellfish being potential culprits. The Department of Health is considering adding warning labels on highly allergenic foods to make it clear for consumers, ensuring safer consumption.
A grandmother wants to pick up a carton of fresh milk to supplement her granddaughter's nutrition, but she must be cautious as it might cause allergies. According to the latest domestic survey on allergens, children under 3 years old are most sensitive to milk and eggs.
In this survey, the prevalence of allergens in infants is 13%, but the highest rate is among elementary school children aged 6 to 12, with 20% having experienced allergies. Adults also have a 17% rate, but the main allergens for adults are not necessarily dairy products. Shellfish, due to their special proteins, are most likely to cause allergies in adults. Even fruits like mangoes, strawberries, kiwis, and bananas should be consumed with caution.
Doctors particularly remind that if one parent has an allergic constitution, the child has a one-third chance of developing allergies. The Department of Health may add warning labels on products in the future, making it clear for consumers at the time of purchase, ensuring that those with allergic constitutions can buy and eat with peace of mind.
