The latest U.S. research found that using scented laundry detergents releases carcinogens like acetaldehyde and benzene when drying clothes. Dr. Lin Jie-liang, Director of Toxicology, said, "When drying clothes, these volatile organic solvents are released. Worse, among these 20-plus volatile organic solvents, some are potential carcinogens or confirmed carcinogens."
Doctors advise choosing laundry detergents or fabric softeners with as little fragrance as possible. It’s also best to place the dryer outside to let the scents disperse, minimizing the risk.
