The Consumer Protection Committee of the Executive Yuan conducted a spot check on commercially available lunchboxes and shockingly discovered eggs contaminated with carcinogenic antibiotics. Some of these problematic eggs were even sold to well-known convenience stores, state-owned enterprises, and schools. Upon tracing the source, it was found that the eggs were supplied by two egg vendors in Kaohsiung. However, the supplier for FamilyMart explained that due to a shortage of eggs in April, they sourced 50 crates from a farm in Changhua, only to encounter this issue. Meanwhile, the supplier for schools and state-owned enterprises also emphasized that they procured the eggs from a cooperative and were equally frustrated by the problem.

Opening a lunchbox, eggs are an essential dish. However, it has now been reported that eggs in FamilyMart lunchboxes were found to contain flumequine, a prohibited antibiotic, prompting the company to urgently switch suppliers. A representative from Jinding Egg Company stated, "In April, we didn’t have enough eggs, so we purchased an additional batch. Unfortunately, they were contaminated with antibiotics from broiler chicken feed."

The eggs supplied to FamilyMart lunchboxes came from Kaohsiung’s Jinding Food Company, which sourced 50 crates from a farm in Changhua—only to encounter this issue. Another vendor, Chenji Egg Company, was also found to have eggs containing prohibited antibiotics such as chloramphenicol and florfenicol. These eggs were supplied to schools like Fengshan Industrial High School and Chung Shan Industrial High School, as well as to China Steel Corporation, with a daily supply of 4,000 servings.

A representative from Chenji Egg Company expressed frustration, saying, "We feel completely innocent." When asked why, they replied, "Because we sourced them from a cooperative (thinking they would be safer)."

The egg vendors were shocked to learn that even eggs from cooperatives were problematic. They have since recalled and destroyed the contaminated eggs. However, the public is now demanding a temporary halt to egg-based dishes. Meanwhile, the Taipei City Health Bureau immediately conducted tests on commercially available eggs, finding that 8 out of 30 samples failed inspection—a failure rate as high as 40%.

Among the issues, excessive trimethoprim can cause gastrointestinal discomfort and affect kidney function, while chloramphenicol and florfenicol may lead to aplastic anemia and red blood cell dysplasia. With food safety scandals emerging one after another, violators can be fined up to NT$6 million under the law. However, these incidents have severely undermined consumer confidence.Source: http:/ / tw. news. yahoo. com/ % E9……7% AA% E9% 99% B7- 040944847. html;_ylt=AoJ8Rzu6f5cYJCNQKRVh2SKVBdF_;_ylu=X3oDMTRqc3JmMTU5BG1pdANTZWN0aW9uTGlzdCBGUCBMaWZlc3R5bGUgTUQEcGtnAzEyOThhYzJjLTM3NGItM2I0MS1hMjE4LWQ2ZGI5OTAxZDgyMwRwb3MDNARzZWMDTWVkaWFCTGlzdE1peGVkTFBDQVRlbXAEdmVyA2M0NmE0NTgwLWRjOGItMTFlMi04ZWU0LWIxODk5Zjk2NDZmYQ--;_ylg=X3oDMTFxZmE5djNsBGludGwDdHcEbGFuZwN6aC1oYW50LXR3BHBzdGFpZAMEcHN0Y2F0A.aWsOiBnummlumggQRwdANwbWg-;_ylv=3
