Taichung’s Taiping Crown Special Printing Company was exposed by the media for using the toxic solvent toluene to wipe off stains. Health authorities also dispatched personnel to collect samples, testing 50 square and 50 round meal boxes on-site, which were sent to the Central Regional Management Center of the Food and Drug Administration under the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The test results are expected within a week.

Company chairman Zhu Mingyao stated that the products have been sent to two SGS testing companies, and they are awaiting the results. He emphasized their willingness to take responsibility and recall products on the market. If this has caused negative public perception, he offers his deepest apologies.

As for whether toluene was used to clean the products, Zhu Mingyao said they will provide an explanation after the test results are released. Under media questioning, he clarified that toluene is an essential cleaning tool for printing machine rollers and urged the media to understand the manufacturing process, cautioning against damaging a company’s reputation without proper knowledge.

Crown Special Printing Company also opened its premises to the media for inspection. The Taichung City Health Bureau stated that if tests confirm the presence of toluene in the products, the company could face fines ranging from NT$60,000 to NT$15 million under Article 16 of the Food Sanitation Management Act.
