Due to the warming temperatures in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, a rare ice flood has occurred in the Hukou area of Shaanxi Province. Massive ice blocks have filled the river channel, crashing into riverside homes, with ice thickness reaching dozens of meters, almost as high as the rooftops. The Hukou scenic area has been completely closed, and local government is busy assisting residents in disaster relief.

This rare Yellow River ice flood occurred from midnight on the 17th to the early morning of the 18th, when the Yellow River water, mixed with a large amount of ice, surged into the Hukou area.

In just over an hour, the river channel, which is more than 400 meters wide, was completely blocked by ice. The massive ice blocks surged out of the river channel and into homes; restaurants and hotels in the Hukou scenic area were filled with ice, with ice blocks almost reaching the ceiling; and the ice piled up by the roadside was dozens of meters thick. Not only were houses and roadside trees knocked down by the heavy ice, but large vehicles were also buried deep in the ice.

The mainland meteorological department stated that this was due to the recent warming temperatures in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, causing the frozen river channel to thaw, and the ice to flow downstream with the river water, leading to this rare ice flood. Currently, the local government has organized rescue teams to search for and rescue people trapped by the ice, and to assist local residents in salvaging their property.
