Due to the high stress and irregular lifestyles of modern people, doctors around the world have proposed lifestyle prescriptions on March 21, "World Sleep Day," to help the public sleep more soundly. According to a recent study, the optimal daily sleep duration for adults aged 20 and above is 6.5 hours. Additionally, due to the secretion of sleep-promoting substances in the body, falling asleep by 10 p.m. or entering deep sleep before midnight can naturally prevent insomnia.

This research was published by Xu Jian, director of the Shanghai "Institute of Sleep Disorders in Traditional Chinese Medicine." As reported by China News Network, Xu Jian based his findings on the principles of the human biological clock, as well as comprehensive factors such as the secretion of growth hormones in the neuroendocrine system, the burden on internal organs and protein synthesis, daytime mood fluctuations, skin elasticity, and habitual dietary structures.

Director Xu Jian emphasized that adults who achieve 6.5 hours of deep sleep daily allow their brains to rest fully, enabling them to maintain an optimal mental state during daytime work, which is highly beneficial for both physical and mental health.

The study also pointed out that sleep-promoting substances in the body are secreted more vigorously around 10 p.m.. If one goes to bed after midnight, sleep quality declines, making it harder to sleep soundly and potentially leading to insomnia.
