Can a man earn an annual income of 10 million yen depending on his breakfast habits? Professor Ryuta Kawashima from the Institute of Development, Aging, and Cancer at Tohoku University, known for his brain-training book series, conducted a "Survey on Breakfast Awareness and Practices" late last year. The survey found that most high-earning male business professionals have a regular breakfast habit, and university students with this habit are more likely to pass entrance exams on their first attempt.

Kawashima, who authored the book "Breakfast Decides Our Brain," conducted an online survey in November last year involving 400 university students and 500 male business professionals aged 35 to 44. The study analyzed the correlation between breakfast habits and a successful life.

The survey results for business professionals showed that 82% of high earners with an annual income of over 10 million yen (approximately NT$3.58 million) eat breakfast in some form every day. Among those earning over 7 million yen (around NT$2.5 million), more than 80% eat breakfast almost daily (4 to 5 days a week). Additionally, over 60% of those with incomes exceeding 10 million yen and a breakfast habit passed university entrance exams on their first try, and over 60% secured jobs at their top-choice companies after graduation. Kawashima suggests that men with breakfast habits seem more likely to become "winners."

Among university students, 51% of those with breakfast habits successfully entered their first-choice schools, while 74% passed entrance exams on their first attempt. Furthermore, 53% felt their "student life was fulfilling," and 50% believed they "studied diligently." In contrast, for students without breakfast habits, these percentages remained in the single digits or just above 10%.

Professor Kawashima analyzed the results, stating, "The habit of eating breakfast can be considered the first step toward passing university exams and achieving a successful life. We can infer that breakfast helps establish a disciplined lifestyle and positively influences the workplace environment for business professionals."
