Four-year-old conjoined twins Krista and Tatiana from British Columbia, Canada, share the same brain and thalamus despite having separate bodies. The thalamus, responsible for relaying sensory and motor signals to the cerebral cortex, allows them to hear each other's thoughts and see through each other's eyes—a phenomenon that has stunned medical experts worldwide.

**Sharing a Thalamus, Sharing Thoughts**

Their mother, Felicia Simms, said that when the twins play, one will reach for something on the other's side, knowing its exact location without being able to see it. "Watching them can be absolutely astonishing because she truly can’t see the toy she’s reaching for—it’s really unbelievable," she said.

The sisters also seem to experience each other’s emotions. Felicia explained, "If one gets hurt, the other feels it too. If you discipline one, the other will cry as well."

Dr. Cochrane, the pediatric neurosurgeon who has cared for the twins since birth, confirmed that they can "see through" each other: "These twins share signals from their visual fields. One may see what the other sees because her brain receives electrical impulses from the other’s retina."

Felicia first discovered during a five-month ultrasound that her unborn babies were craniopagus twins—joined at the head. She later delivered them via C-section, with their heads fused above the ears. Krista relies on her kidneys for blood circulation and filtration. Felicia said, "Their brains are fused as one. Any attempt to separate them could endanger one or both of their lives."

**Only Three Surviving Cases of Craniopagus Twins Worldwide**

Globally, only eight documented cases of craniopagus twins exist, with just three surviving after birth.

Felicia, who already has three other children, admitted that since the twins were born, she has received many anonymous letters calling them "freaks" and suggesting she should have aborted them. But she pays no mind to the harsh criticism. She described Krista as the more dominant twin, while Tatiana is more laid-back and tends to follow orders. "Krista’s the bossy one—I call her my little bully," she said.
