According to an experiment conducted by a U.S. university, sleep deprivation in men can affect the secretion of the male hormone testosterone. Researchers noted that as men age, testosterone levels decrease by 1% to 2% annually. Low testosterone levels are more likely to lead to fatigue, reduced libido, lack of concentration, and feelings of exhaustion.

Researchers at the University of Chicago invited 10 healthy men with an average age of 24 to participate in the study. For the first three days, they were allowed to sleep up to 10 hours, followed by eight consecutive days of sleep restricted to less than five hours. Blood samples were taken every half hour for testing. The results showed that those who slept less than five hours had a 15% reduction in testosterone levels compared to earlier measurements, with the lowest levels occurring between 2 PM and 10 PM.

Additionally, researchers found through questionnaires that participants reported less pronounced feelings of "happiness" and energy during periods of sleep deprivation. Researcher Van Cauter stated, "More studies are confirming that short sleep duration or poor sleep quality is increasingly becoming a major factor disrupting endocrine function."

Researchers pointed out that male testosterone levels decrease by about 1% to 2% annually with age. Low testosterone levels are more likely to cause fatigue, reduced libido, lack of concentration, and feelings of exhaustion.

The findings of this study were published in *The Journal of the American Medical Association*.
