Renowned plastic surgeon Lin Zhengcheng was searched and questioned by prosecutors in May this year. He was accused of allegedly manufacturing the banned weight-loss drug "Fat-Burning Capsules" by replacing the capsule shells in early 2011 and prescribing them to patients, violating the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office concluded its investigation today, issuing a two-year deferred prosecution. Additionally, within one year of the deferred prosecution being finalized, he must pay NT$10 million to the national treasury.

The deferred prosecution document stated that Lin Zhengcheng is a practicing physician at the "Mei Mei Pandora Clinic" on Tingzhou Road in Taipei City. The investigation revealed that Dr. Lin was aware that two weight-loss products sold by a pharmaceutical company contained banned ingredients announced by the Department of Health, which posed higher cardiovascular safety risks. Nevertheless, in late last year, he allegedly purchased over 30,000 "Fat-Burning Capsules" at a low price of NT$6 to NT$7 per capsule. To avoid detection, he then allegedly replaced the capsule shells in early 2021 and prescribed them to patients. After receiving a tip-off, prosecutors conducted a search and questioning in late May this year, seizing the remaining capsules.
Huang Mouxin, spokesperson for the Taipei District Prosecutors Office, stated that after investigation, prosecutors determined that Lin Zhengcheng had violated the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act and related regulations. Considering his admission of guilt during the investigation and his deep remorse, the prosecutors ultimately issued a two-year deferred prosecution. Additionally, within one year of the deferred prosecution being finalized, he must pay NT$10 million to the national treasury.
