The Inventors of Disease: How the Modern Medical Industry Sells Our Health
Die Krankheitserfinder: Wie Wir Zu Patienten Gemacht Werden

In this book, the author attempts to prove that many diseases are not actually diseases but rather the result of efforts to promote pharmaceutical products. Today's medical industry has redefined human health, with many normal stages of human development—such as birth, aging, sexuality, and death—being labeled as diseases. Large multinational corporations (pharmaceutical companies) facilitate the "invention" of diseases and their treatments to market their medical products. Many sensational disease reports are sponsored by these companies. Nowadays, it is difficult to distinguish between genuine medicine and clever pharmaceutical marketing campaigns. Diseases have thus become industrial products. Manufacturers and interest groups have turned normal life processes into medical issues, effectively "medicalizing" life.

To what extent has this medicalization of life progressed, and what significant impact does it have on our society, our healthcare system, and us as individuals? These issues have rarely been discussed and have not sparked any controversy. The purpose of this book is to change that. It will discuss the rules of auctioning off health and how we can protect ourselves from having our health sold.
