In an estuary in southwestern England, two groups of stranded dolphins suddenly appeared yesterday, totaling more than twenty. After a rescue effort, seven were returned to the sea, while the rest perished. This marks the largest mass stranding of dolphins in the UK in nearly thirty years. Animal experts are currently unclear about the reason these dolphins suddenly swam inland en masse. Dozens of dolphins swam from the sea to the inland, collectively stranding at the entrance of the River Quayle in Cornwall, southwestern England. Such a rare sight has not been seen in the UK for twenty-seven years. The first group of about fifteen dolphins arrived on the 9th. Another large group of dolphins, possibly attracted by the mournful calls of the first group, followed in succession.

Despite the best efforts of rescuers, the tragedy of a large number of dolphin deaths was unavoidable. The striped dolphins that stranded this time usually only inhabit deep-sea areas and rarely appear in shallow coastal waters. Animal experts have taken the deceased dolphins ashore to try to understand the cause.

Through the efforts of rescuers, seven dolphins were successfully guided back to the sea, but twenty-one dolphins stranded and died, a scene too tragic to behold. One dolphin was unable to swim, and a veterinarian had to euthanize it. Currently, the UK authorities have dispatched a large number of volunteers to survey nearby inland rivers to ensure there are no other stranded dolphins.
