The authoritative American financial magazine "Forbes" has released a list of the top ten fastest-changing countries globally, with Bosnia ranking first with a perfect score of 100. Taiwan and mainland China scored 84 and 76 points respectively, securing the third and fourth positions. Among emerging countries, Taiwan ranks first in terms of the speed of change.
In the wave of globalization, how international brands introduce their main products into foreign markets is key to their success or failure. The demands and tastes of these markets are rapidly changing, making the topic of which global markets are changing the fastest a hot one. The Washington-based "Social Technologies Consulting Company" has developed a "Speed of Change" index to measure the rate of change in various national markets over the past 10 to 15 years compared to the current stage.
Social Technologies analyst Card pointed out that the "Change Index" measures significant changes in life, rather than minor improvements in the lives of people in wealthy countries. For example, simply upgrading from a regular mobile phone to a smartphone is not considered. What it aims to reflect are major changes, such as transitioning from traveling across Kinshasa by bus to owning an affordable car.
Forty years ago, Harvard University economist Gerschenkron proposed that the more backward a country, the faster its development or industrial growth speed would be. The rapid economic growth of mainland China in recent years, ranking fourth on the change list, sufficiently validates this famous hypothesis.
How the Change Index is Evaluated
The Change Index measures scoring items including urbanization, literacy rate, civil liberties, average GDP, and the penetration rates of telephones, televisions, and the internet. All relevant data come from authoritative institutions such as the United Nations Development Programme, Freedom House, and the World Resources Institute. The greater the change in each item, the higher the index.
