With frequent electricity price hikes and occasional surges in oil prices, replacing fuel oil with electricity is currently a hot topic. The Taiwan Farmland Water Conservancy Association plans to utilize a new type of hydroelectric technology. If successfully developed, it is hoped to supply 10% of the nation's electricity.
This is currently the only run-of-river hydroelectric generator in the world. By using the force of channel water flow to drive the turbine, it can provide electricity for at least 50 households. This technology is considered a first in Taiwan!
Taiwan's hydroelectric industry has been around for over 100 years, but the power supply has never been able to increase. Thermal power generation cannot meet the benefits of energy conservation and carbon reduction. The Farmland Water Conservancy Association has taken a keen interest in this power generation system. The 17 water conservancy associations nationwide will provide available irrigation channels for an overall development plan.
Once the plan is completed, there will be at least nearly 35,000 hydroelectric power stations nationwide. Conservatively estimated, they will provide 10% of the nation's electricity supply. Each run-of-river hydroelectric generator costs 10 million and can be recovered in about 6 to 7 years. Implementing energy conservation and carbon reduction, Taiwan's hydroelectric industry is about to lead the world.
