Medical experts have stated that a baby expected to be born this week will be the first in the UK to be screened and born without the breast cancer gene. The presence of the breast cancer gene significantly increases the risk of developing breast cancer in the future.

The 27-year-old expectant mother, who insists on remaining anonymous, decided to undergo embryo genetic screening after witnessing several female relatives in her husband's family suffer from breast cancer, indicating a high hereditary risk.

However, an opposing group has warned that the practice of embryo screening further allows science to dominate, potentially leading to the creation of "designer babies."

Doctors implanted an embryo confirmed to be free of the BRCA 1 breast cancer gene into the woman's uterus, which successfully implanted. If the baby had this gene, the future risk of developing breast cancer could be as high as 50% to 80%.

This embryo screening method uses a technique known as "preimplantation genetic diagnosis." In the UK, this technology has been used for embryo screening of diseases such as cystic fibrosis.

The UK government approved this technology in 2006.

This embryo screening practice is still relatively rare in the UK medical community, but it has been adopted in the United States and Belgium for breast cancer embryo screening.
