An 8-year-old girl in the UK had such a severe fear of dentists that after returning home from a baby tooth extraction surgery, she refused to open her mouth to eat and eventually starved to death in her bed.

The UK's Daily Mail reported on the 10th that Sophie Waller began to fear dentists at the age of four when a dentist accidentally cut her tongue during an oral examination. Four years later, a hard candy caused one of her teeth to become loose.

Dentist, to avoid trouble, extracted 8 teeth at once.

Sophie's mother, Jenna, said at her daughter's inquest on the 10th that she took Sophie to the Royal Cornwall Hospital for treatment. To avoid repeating the same procedure, the doctor decided to perform surgery to extract all 8 of Sophie's baby teeth at once.

Post-surgery depression, never ate or spoke again.

Jenna, a preschool teacher, stated that Sophie was very upset when she woke up after the surgery and found blood pouring from her mouth. From then until her death, she never opened her mouth again. Sophie was hospitalized for 12 days post-surgery, relying entirely on a feeding tube for nutrition.

After being discharged, Sophie refused to speak or swallow food. Jenna tried to feed her yogurt, fruit puree, watermelon, and vitamin tablets, but most of the food spilled out of Sophie's mouth. Jenna said that four days before Sophie's death, she and her husband called the hospital, pleading for Sophie to be readmitted, but were refused. The hospital referred the case to psychologist Davidson, whom they contacted at least once a day, but she always replied, "Things will get better, as long as the child eats something, there's no need to worry."

Lost 11 kg in 23 days, weighed only 24 kg at death.

Sophie became very thin and unable to walk on her own. At her death, she weighed only 24 kg, having lost 11 kg in the 23 days from surgery to death. The autopsy report indicated that Sophie died of acute renal failure caused by starvation and dehydration, with no food in her stomach or intestines.

Sophie was originally a chubby girl who loved school and eating. On the morning of December 2, 2005, Jenna went upstairs to wake her beloved daughter and found Sophie lifeless. She picked her up and rushed downstairs, where her husband immediately performed CPR, but it was too late.
