The latest scientific survey reveals that the polar ice caps at the Earth's North and South Poles are melting at an unprecedented and accelerating rate. At the same time, the renowned British environmentalist James Lovelock has made a startling assertion: it is now too late to save the Earth.

Mobilizing 10,000 scientists to explore the polar wilderness, a two-year investigation by the World Meteorological Organization and the International Council for Science found that the polar ice caps are not only melting faster but also at a scale far beyond experts' expectations.

As evidence of global warming continues to emerge, the world has finally realized that environmental protection is imperative. Yet, at this critical moment, a British climate scientist has pessimistically predicted that no matter what we do now, it may already be too late to prevent disaster.

Lovelock, who proposed the "Gaia Hypothesis" in the 1970s—claiming that the Earth's environment and its organisms interact and are tightly interconnected—is a recognized expert in environmental science. He believes that the destruction of Earth's ecology is not solely caused by carbon dioxide emissions but is the combined result of human activities such as population growth, agricultural development, and deforestation. Therefore, the emission reduction agreements currently under discussion by nations hold little real significance .

Lovelock has made a shocking prediction: by the end of this century, the Earth will become dry and hot, temperate regions like Europe will resemble Baghdad, and the global population of 7 billion will plummet to just 1 billion.

Lovelock claims he does not wish to be a doomsday prophet, but the Earth's dwindling time has compelled him to sound the alarm. He urges the world to accept the irreversible reality of global warming and adopt a pragmatic approach to address the crisis of environmental degradation.
