French researchers today stated that excess abdominal weight can impair lung function.
The study, which involved 120,000 people in France, indicated that abdominal obesity can lead to diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease—health issues collectively referred to as metabolic syndrome.
The researchers noted that, regardless of other complex factors affecting lung function—such as overall obesity and smoking—a larger waist circumference is strongly associated with reduced lung function. Central News Agency (Translation)
