Johnson's Baby Shampoo Carcinogenic? Stores Rush to Remove from Shelves. International Center/Compiled

A U.S. consumer protection group released a shocking report on the 13th, revealing that 17 children's bath products on the American market contain two carcinogens—formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane—including well-known products like Johnson's Baby Shampoo.

Frequently bathing and washing children's hair might actually make them sick? The U.S. consumer group Campaign for Safe Cosmetics released a report on children's bath products on the 13th, stating that out of 28 products tested, 23 contained formaldehyde, and 32 out of 48 products contained 1,4-dioxane. A total of 17 products were found to contain both carcinogens, including Johnson's Baby Shampoo, L'Oréal 2-in-1 Baby Shampoo, and Pampers Hand Wash. Since both formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane are carcinogens, the report immediately sparked panic among parents.

However, Johnson & Johnson has strongly refuted the report, stating that their products meet all standards. The U.S. Personal Care Products Council also responded, claiming the report used outdated sampling methods and that preservatives in bath products prevent bacterial and fungal growth. They emphasized that the chemical levels in these products are very low and completely safe.

In fact, regardless of the safety of bath products, multiple studies have shown that excessive bathing and over-cleaning can weaken infants' immune systems.

Professor Golding from the University of Bristol pointed out that children kept in extremely clean environments may experience adverse immune system effects, as they fail to develop normal responses to infections. This means that even if bath products are safe, overuse is not beneficial for infants.

Among the 17 products listed in the U.S. report, Pampers Hand Wash is not imported in Taiwan, while L'Oréal Baby Shampoo has limited availability in the market.
